Why God’s Plans are Greater Than My Own

I have always tried to plan my life and have things work out in my timing. Obviously life doesn’t work that way because God doesn’t work that way. The past few months have been filled with more stress and anxiety than I could ever imagine. I felt like I tried to do everything “right” by graduating college and then getting married; however, I realized that everyone’s life is different and there is not one “right’ way to live life. At this time, I also didn’t realize how much stress came with it all, such as finding a job and a home. I am a very patient person for the most part, but when it comes to things I can’t control, I feel as if I can’t handle the unknown.

We had been searching for a home for about a year and couldn’t find anything within our budget. As you can imagine, the stress started to become more than I could bear.  At that time the only thing that brought me comfort and peace was the bible verse Mattthew 21:22 which said “if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” I kept hearing it in my head and knew that God had a plan: I just didn’t understand what that plan was and when it would happen.

A couple days later, I had a dream that we found a home for rent.  I began to wonder what that meant because when I woke up, I instantly felt better about the situation. Within a week, I noticed a Facebook notification that someone had tagged me in a picture.  By this time, I had almost given up looking for a place to live. The picture was a beautiful home that was just put up for sale and it was within our price range. I instantly called the realtor and made plans to look at it the next day with my fiancé. We both ended up loving the place and put in an offer. After that, everything went so smoothly and we recently just closed on our home.

What I’ve realized through this process is that we all want to feel like we made it, but God’s timing might not be in our timing, and just because it hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean it won’t ever happen. I often feel like God tests people’s faith and it makes their relationship with God stronger because right when you feel that something is impossible, he makes it possible. He makes it worth it and also makes us humble. God is such a loving God but he also wants us to trust in him fully and not to worry.

I hope that this post helps someone that might be in a similar situation or doubting God’s plans for his or her life. Just know that Gods plans are so much greater than our own and that if we trust in him, he will provide for us.

Phillipians 4: 6-7- Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.

Xoxo,
